PEBBLE & TIDE COUNSELLING
FAQs
Do I need a diagnosis to work with you?
No. You are welcome here with or without a formal diagnosis. You do not need to prove or explain your experience to be supported.
What happens in the first session?
We will gently get to know each other, explore what brought you here, and talk about what support might look like for you. There is no pressure to dive into anything heavy straight away. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
I may occasionally take brief notes during our sessions to help me remember important things you've shared. This might mean I am not always making eye contact, especially in online sessions, but please know I am still fully present and listening closely. My priority is always to create a space where you feel seen and supported.
What if I struggle to talk or go blank in sessions?
That is completely okay. You can pause, take your time, or let me know you need a moment. Some clients prefer writing, drawing, using visuals, or starting with grounding before speaking. We will find what works for you.
Can I use notes or talk about something I wrote down?
Yes, absolutely. You are welcome to use notes, journals, questions, or anything else that helps you feel prepared or supported.
Is it okay if I mask or stim during sessions?
Yes. You can unmask if you want to, or stay masked if that feels safer. You are welcome to stim, use sensory items, wear headphones, move around your space, or do what feels good for your nervous system.
What if I am not sure what I need from counselling yet?
That is completely valid. You do not need to have goals or a plan. Sometimes just showing up and being heard is the beginning of real change.
Do you conduct assessments for diagnosing depression, ADHD and autism?
I am not able to provide an official diagnosis. However, I can offer screener assessments that explore your experiences and highlight patterns. These results can be taken to your GP, psychologist, or psychiatrist to support a formal assessment.
If you would like, I can also help you prepare for your appointment with a specialist so you feel confident and clear about the concerns you’d like to discuss.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, except in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. I will always explain this in more detail before we begin.
Can I message you between sessions?
You can reach out to reschedule or share brief updates, but in-depth support happens in-session. If you're in crisis, please contact
